RAKOCEVIC: More costly executives won’t fix Metrolinx

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Public Transit Minister Tom Rakocevic (Humber River—Black Creek) says Metrolinx’s focus on hiring more high-paid executives shows that both the organization and the Ford government aren’t serious about quality public transit:

“Metrolinx will cut anything but their bloated executive roster,” said Rakocevic. “At a time when they’re rapidly scaling back the GO expansion — which the Ford government says is a big part of their plans — Metrolinx’s top priories are adding 11 more overpaid executives, and writing off 500 million taxpayer dollars.

“That now brings the total number of executives to a completely absurd figure of 135. How many six-figure salaries will it take for us to see some accountability? Do they need to get to 200 executives before someone has the idea to be transparent with the people of Ontario?

“We need a full public inquiry into Metrolinx, so we can deliver reliable public transit that doesn’t waste people’s time and hard-earned money.”
